There are many words that do not exist in the English language, words that take an entire sentence to explain. Moikkai, the Japanese word meaning one more time or to repeat, is one of them. It is not just an action but an approach and a state of being, an invitation to return with attention rather than obligation.

I came to understand this during my time in Japan, where repeating the same things each day first felt monotonous, until I realized the meaning came from the intention behind the act, a mindset that extends beyond culture or routine and applies to any action where repetition becomes a way to stay present, refine, and move forward with purpose.

It took a while to use this as a layer of context for goals I would take on, but slowly the comfort and strength gained within this loop solidified. Over time, that commitment to small, conscious changes built resilience, turning effort into understanding and movement into memory, and I’d like to share how it has contributed to the current climbing journey I am on; Moikkai.
